THE COUNTY CLERKS OFFICE is currently open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY until further notice. Transactions such as Pistol permit amendments and DBA’s can be processed through the mail or by leaving in the drop box at the front door. Forms can be printed and completed in advance from the County Clerk’s website.

Title search companies and others needing access to land records are encouraged to use our online portal at

We are still accepting recording documents by USPS, FEDX-EX, UPS and Courier or electronically by e-Record. In addition, all court work must be submitted electronically through NYSCEF at 

The DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES (DMV) is currently open to Schuyler County residents by appointment only.  Due to the high volume of calls, we ask that you please leave a message and we will return your call to schedule an appointment as soon as we can. Please call 607-535-8131.

In addition, the Schuyler County DMV is still accepting vehicle registrations by MAIL or DROP BOX only. This will allow for the transfer of vehicle registrations as well as plate surrenders. 

The forms necessary can be printed from the following DMV website   or printed from the Schuyler County DMV page.

Please mail in the following to register your vehicle;

  • MV-82
  • DTF-802 and Bill of Sale
  • Proof of Insurance
  • Title
  • Copy of your driver’s license
  • Blank, signed check
  • A prepaid, self-addressed, large, envelope for the return of your plates and receipt.
  • Anyone submitting plate surrenders must include $1 and a self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of your receipt.

Effective March 11, 2020 there will be a $10 fee added to all residential deed recordings.

On January 11, 2020 Governor Cuomo signed into law an amendment to Real Property Law Section 291 that requires County Clerks to notify the owner(s) of record of residential real property when a document is recorded affecting said residential property. The law also allows a reasonable fee to be assessed for said notices.

The NYS Association of County Clerks, in order to provide uniformity throughout NYS, has determined that $10 is a reasonable fee per document.

In Schuyler County, this fee will apply to residential deed documents executed on or after March 11, 2020 and received over the counter or through the mail (USPS, FedEx, UPS etc.)

This fee does not apply to commercial transactions.

You will find the County Clerk’s office located in the Courthouse on the corner of Franklin Street and 9th Street in beautiful Watkins Glen with the Department of Motor Vehicles located conveniently down the hall.  Both offices offer friendly, experienced staff willing to assist you with the many services we provide whether it be;

  •          Recording land records or simply getting a copy of a Document already on record.
  •          Filing Civil / Marital court proceedings. (Marriage Certificates are issued by your Town                  Clerk) Visit the County, Town, Village Directory to locate Town information.  
  •          Local Criminal Searches.
  •          Applying / Amending a NYS Pistol Permit.
  •          Obtaining a Hunting or Fishing License, or
  •          Acquiring /renewing a passport.

All public records can be searched in our office through our indexes Monday- Friday 8:30 AM- 4:30 PM.

Passports and Recordings are only received until 4:00 PM.

Criminal Searches are $10 per name. A request must be submitted in writing. Results will be addressed by phone, email or mail at your request. Certified copies of Dispositions are $5. 

Our Historical & Contemporary online records are available at our Cott Portal which is presently being expanded to make your searches from the office or home even more accessible.
