County-Wide Comprehensive Plan
A Comprehensive Plan (CP) is a blueprint of a community. What does your community want to be in the future and how will it get there? The CP states this vision clearly and specifies the goals and strategies to make the vision a reality. A CP is not law and therefore, not enforceable as such. Instead, a CP is a general guidance document for the community and for the development of policies that may help the community reach its goals.
Currently in Schuyler County, many communities are working on creating or updating their own Comprehensive Plans. To ensure that each municipality is on the same page and to make the processes as efficient and as effective as possible, a County-Wide Comprehensive Plan (CWCP) was proposed. This plan differs from a local plan in that it takes a much broader perspective. The CWCP is a document that covers a number of topics and is being developed in cooperation with every municipality in the County. The aim of the CWCP is to provide guidance and direction for the entire County on a wide range of topics including transportation, energy development, social services and housing. The CWCP will also serve as a source of policies and strategies for municipalities updating/creating their own plans. To be clear, municipalities do not need to adopt everything the CWCP suggests. Instead, they can choose, like a menu, the goals/policies that best suit their needs.
The CWCP is a great way to have all of the municipalities working together for the betterment of the entire County.
Details about the plan, process and updates are available in the links to the left.
